Treatment and Prevention of
Periodontitis
Sometimes, no matter how well you follow a daily routine of care you’ll end up with periodontitis. If this happens to you, don’t stress out, let us help!
Periodontitis, commonly referred to as gum disease, is a serious bacterial infection that damages the soft tissue and bone that support your teeth. It is often caused by plaque buildup due to poor dental hygiene and if left untreated can cause tooth loosening and loss.
What can you do about it?
The best way to prevent gum disease is by consistent, daily teeth brushing and flossing, and regular dental checkups. At Stansbury Dental, we recommend a checkup once every six months. Mild gum disease, gingivitis, is reversible. However, periodontitis is much harder to treat as gum tissue does not grow back. In advanced cases, implants, dentures, or other prosthetics may be necessary.
