Is Orthodontic Care Necessary?
It is not necessary for everyone to receive orthodontic care. However, if you or your child has issues with bite, alignment, or spacing of their teeth, it would be wise to get them checked out. Many orthodontists recommend children get checked out around age 7 when their permanent teeth start to come in to see if any work is suggested.
Receiving this care at a young age can help permanent teeth come in properly. Straight permanent teeth can prevent tooth issues later on in life. Crooked or crowded teeth can make it difficult to get them properly clean, which can lead to tooth decay, tooth loss, and gum disease. Having this work done also makes it easier to bite, chew, and speak.
